What is FlipBook format?

Digital publications in FlipBook format feature an impressive 3D Page-Flipping interface (simulating the reading experience of paper-based publications). The FlipBook format was developed by E-Book Systems (www.flipviewer.com) and is capable of integrating multimedia contents such as video, audio and animations.

How is the digital FlipBook magazine different from the regular print version? Does the digital FlipBook version contain all the content of the print version?

The digital FlipBook magazine is an exact replica of the print version in a 3D flipping format. Hence, all the pictures, articles, advertisements are the same in the FlipBook version. One can even turn the pages.

The digital version also offers further advantages, including:

Links and bookmarks within a publication that directly take you right to articles, websites and other areas that you quickly want to access.
Easy storage and management of present and past issues through FlipViewer® Library.

Can I Search the FlipBook magazine, Zoom in or Add Notes to interesting articles?

As you read the magazine in a digital format, you can use the full-text search feature of FlipViewer® to locate keywords in the articles. Of course you can also zoom in on interesting articles or images, and just as you would do with a Post-it note, add notes to the pages.

I have a Firewall installed on my computer. Can I still use FlipViewer®?

Yes, you can read FlipBooks on computers with firewall installed.

FlipViewer® is using port number 80, which is the same port your Internet browser is using. In case FlipViewer® cannot connect to the Internet, make sure that you allow your firewall to let FlipViewer® and FlipViewer® Library access the Internet directly.

I have a Proxy Server installed / I am connected through a proxy server because I am using FlipViewer® in the company. Can I still access FlipBooks over the Internet?

Yes, FlipViewer® uses the Proxy Settings that are defined in Internet Explorer (IE) settings. If you have not yet configured this in IE, please do so first, and then try to connect again.

Some local proxy server tools such WebWasher can lead to a problem though. You might need to manually configure these Firewalls to let FlipViewer® communicate with the Internet. FlipViewer® uses the same port number as the HTTP protocol, port number 80.

My AntiVirus program has recognized FlipViewer® as a Virus / Trojan. Can that be?

Error Messages

I have encountered "XML Codes" error when sharing FlipBooks on the Internet.

In order to view online FlipBooks, one will need to have the FlipViewer® software installed on the machine. A copy of the FlipViewer® software can be downloaded here.

In order to prevent this from recurring, it is recommended that you replace your online FlipBook URL with an auto-install URL, e.g., replace

http://www.flipviewer.com/home.opf
with
http://www.flipviewer.com/fvenp/?opf=http://www.flipviewer.com/home.opf&ver=Gen

When the readers click on the auto-install URL, the FlipViewer® program will automatically install on the machines that do not have FlipViewer® previously installed, and that are running Internet Explorer 5.01 or above. Note that the FlipViewer® software requires certain components from Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher to function. For users who do not already have Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher installed, they may download the latest version from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.asp.

I have encountered "Unable to load {FlipBook Link}" error when opening a FlipBook on the Internet.

Here is a list of possibilities why you are not able to open or view an online FlipBook, while others can:

Possibility 1: A required viewer is not installed

In order to read online FlipBooks, the user will need to have FlipViewer® software installed on his machine. A copy of FlipViewer® software can be downloaded here.

Possibility 2: Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher is not installed

The FlipViewer® software requires certain components from Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher for it to function. If you do not already have Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher installed, you may download the latest version of Internet Explorer from Microsoft here.

Possibility 3: Launching the online FlipBook from non-IE web browsers

The FlipBook may not launch automatically from certain web-browsers. In such situations, copy the URL of the online FlipBook, launch your installed copy of FlipViewer®, and paste the FlipBook URL on the address bar, or the text field after clicking on the File -> Open Book menu.

Possibility 4: Your FlipViewer® installation may be corrupted

Please uninstall the FlipViewer® software on your PC via the Start -> Control Panel menu, Add or Remove Programs option, and re-install the software thereafter. A copy of the free FlipViewer® software can be downloaded here.

Possibility 5: Your personal firewall (e.g., Zone Alarm) is restricting the downloading of executable files, and the viewer program access to the internet

Please allow downloading of FlipViewer® installation file, as well as permit the FlipViewer® program to access the internet. If you have problems with the permission setting on your firewall, you may want to temporarily disable your firewall program and try accessing your online FlipBook.

Possibility 6: Your Corporate network environment does not permit downloading of .exe, .opf, .flp or any other files that are included in your FlipBook

Please do contact your MIS team for permission and advice on the relevant setting(s).
